Brad Jackson Goes Solo!

As the sun set in the western sky, a crowd of spectators gathered to witness the first solo flight of Brad Jackson.  The weather was perfect for his first flying experience without an instructor occupying the aircraft with a slight breeze out of the northwest, few clouds, and one other aircraft flying around the airport.

When asked for a comment, Brad's flight instructor, Jon Fussle said, "I am very proud of the job Brad did tonight.  There was a lot of pressure on him to perform with all those people out there watching, but he did great.  Those were some of the best landings he's had.  I'm really proud of myself... I mean Brad... I'm really proud of Brad."

It has been Brad's dream to learn to fly since he was young.  His lessons are a gift from his wife for a birthday present.

Karina Holstad Joins the Team of Instructors at the Warsaw Flying Club

Karina Holstad moved to Warsaw from Jackson, Mississippi earlier this month to take a job as a Certified Flight Instructor with the Warsaw Flying Club. She moved to the United States from Norway in the fall of 2000 to attend one of the most renowned schools in aviation, the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. On her way to graduating with a bachelor's degree in Airport Management, Karina worked hard to become certified by the Federal Aviation Administration in Private and Commercial Pilot's licenses for both Single and Multi-Engine aircraft. She also earned her Instrument Rating in addition to the licenses she had--and as a crowning achievement to her studies at UND--became a Certified Flight Instructor.

As Karina begins working at the Warsaw Flying Club, she will be working to add the Instrument Certification to her Flight Instructor license under the guidance of Jon Fussle, the Director and Senior Flight Instructor at the Warsaw Flying Club.

The Warsaw Flying Club was founded in February of 2004 to provide affordable aircraft to the pilots of the greater Warsaw area. The club offers a two-seat training aircraft, a Cessna 152, and a four-seat Cessna 172 which offers more speed and room for those longer trips. Current clientele of the Warsaw Flying Club range from students of local high schools to officials in the local government. WFC is proud to welcome Karina to the Warsaw area and is proud to offer a more diverse, more international flavor in its selection of flight instructors.

There will be a meet-and-greet barbeque held at the airport on Thursday, June 9th at 5:00pm. It is open to the public. United Airlines Capitan Reinhold Fussle will be on hand to talk about careers in aviation. Also in attendance will be Jon Fussle, senior Flight Instructor and Founder of the Warsaw Flying Club to talk about learning to fly. It will be a good time to meet the members of the local aviation community, find out more about learning to fly, take a $10 airplane ride, and eat good food. There is no cost to the public.

Jim Quick Passes the Private Pilot Checkride

On Friday, May 6th, Jim Quick took to the sky for the last time as a student pilot as he turned his Cessna 172, N6295R, toward Indianapolis on his Private Pilot checkride with Bob Markett in Valparaiso.  The next time he powered up his airplane for takeoff, he was a real pilot.  Jim made the quick hop from Valparaiso to Warsaw to pick up his luggage for his trip to meet up with family in Detroit.  Little over an hour later, he was celebrating with his wife and newborn son.

Shortly after soloing, Jim decided that he was going to purchase an aircraft and sought the advice of Jon Fussle, Director of the Warsaw Flying Club.  After evaluating his needs and how much he was willing to spend, he decided on one of the most reliable and common aircraft in existence, the Cessna 172.  A careful search turned up several prospective aircraft, but the field was whittled down to one.  Jon flew out to Montana to retrieve the aircraft and presented Jim with his very own aircraft.  Jim chose to make the 172 available to the members of the Warsaw Flying Club on a leaseback to the club.

Jim Quick is a true success story and the poster-child of the Warsaw Flying Club, manifesting the potential that can be found in the club into a real success story.  We are all so proud of Jim and his accomplishments over the past eight months.
