September Cookout a Success!
With more than 75 people showing up for the Warsaw Flying Club cookout and airplane rides, the event was a success. Although the weather threatened early in the morning, Saturday, September 24th turned out to be a great day to be outside and an even better day to be in the air. The WFC instructors were on hand to give airplane rides and did so to the tune of almost 50 rides. Members of the Club mingled with members of the public who showed after finding out about the cookout through Karina's appearance on WRSW's radio program the day before (see below), Saturday's Times-Union, signs around town, or word-of-mouth. Despite the EAA's cancellation of their planned "bomb drop" and spot-landing competition because of forecast for Saturday earlier in the week, the instructors and members of the WFC held their own bomb drop and spot landing competition. The bomb drop champion was Dave Dick, while the spot-landing competition was nearly a three-way tie--until CFI David Fussle pulled off a tiebreaker in the ensuing dance-off despite two broken legs (no joke). The EAA has rescheduled for Saturday, October 1st, and the Warsaw Flying Club is planning on being there once again. This time, they will offer airplane rides and compete in the landing competition and bomb drop while the EAA will offer food for a cost. Thanks to everyone who showed up for the cookout and helped make it a success.

Karina Visits WRSW
On
September 23rd, Karina Holstad headed downtown Warsaw to visit the 107.3 WRSW
studio. Jim Brennan extended an invitation to the Warsaw Flying Club to
come out to the station and explain what was going to happen on Saturday for the
cookout. Karina rode the airwaves into the homes, cars, and offices of
thousands of residents of Kosciusko County. It turns out that Jim is a
pilot, albeit a slightly inactive one, and had much in common with Karina.
If you caught Jim and Karina on the radio on Friday, you might have heard them
discuss the club, the activities planned for the Pilot Fun Day/Cookout, and
Karina's qualifications and experience in aviation. The Warsaw Flying Club
would like to thank WRSW and Jim Brennan for the opportunity to reach the
community through the power of radio.
