Ron Truex Solos!
There have been better days to go flying alone for the first time, but when you're ready, you're ready. Ron Truex, delayed by back surgery, had been training for this day for months. The strong winds and gusty conditions did not hamper his instructors' faith in him. His instructors (Karina Holstad and Dave Fussle) watched along with friends and family who had come out to witness the once-in-a-lifetime event. They were not disappointed with quite a show of skills as Ron handled the challenging conditions. Fellow student Steve Wishart was also on hand to enjoy the weather and share the skies. Steve was waiting his turn for the runway for one of Ron's landings and called it a, "pretty good landing." Tough crowd.
After the standard three takeoffs and landings, Ron taxied his airplane (a Piper Archer) back to the ramp to celebrate his very recent success. There, he was greeted by a small crowd, who promptly cut off his shirt tail to join the "Wall of Fame" in the Warsaw Municipal Airport Terminal. The sacrifice of a usually gaudy shirt was a tradition started at the Warsaw Municipal Airport by WFC's Jon Fussle before there was a Flying Club. There are more than a dozen shirt-tails on the wall today.
Ron bought his airplane after one of his first lessons with his friends, Brad Jackson and Mike Miner, both members of the Warsaw Flying Club. Brad Jackson got his Private Pilot License earlier this summer, and Mike soloed last month. Congratulations to Ron Truex and enjoy the rest of your training!
Marek Tipton Passes Private Pilot Checkride!
Marek is working on a personal editorial, discussing his experience getting his license at the Warsaw Flying Club. It will be published here as soon as he finishes it.
