Squawk Ident | Our New Baby

The Warsaw Flying Club is proud to introduce our new baby, a 1946 Piper J-3 Cub! The Cub is a light sport aircraft and can transform into a seaplane, a ski plane and offers an additional tailwheel endorsement for pilots.

The Cub is like no other plane and flies completely different than our other airplanes, offering a new taste of flight for all pilots, old and new. Being able to offer this plane to our club members has always been a goal for WFC President, Jon Fussle and seeing this plane become a reality for our Club is a dream come true. “As the Club has grown, I have tried hard to make sure that we are able to meet the needs of our members. It has been about getting the job done… But now it’s time to play. With the Cub, we get to play on the lakes in the summer, on the wheels in the spring and fall, and on the skis in the winter,” says Fussle. “This is going to revolutionize the Club as it takes us into the ‘fun’, not just ‘functional’.”

The Piper Cub is a classic, light sport aircraft that was built between 1937 and 1947. The aircraft has a simple, lightweight design which gives it good low speed handling properties and short field performance. This classic plane is one of the best known light aircraft of all time due to it’s simplicity, affordability and popularity. Nearly every pilot in World War II got his (or her) start in the Piper J-3 Cub. It is an honor to finally have the timeless J-3 Cub in our Club!

With this new beautiful bird joining our fleet, we are excited to now offer Seaplane Ratings, tail wheel endorsements and the Sport Pilot’s license. We will be offering a tail wheel ground school April 16, from 9am-12 at Hangar 12. The cost is $499 and includes 3 hours of group ground school and 3 hours of flight time in the Cub to earn your tail wheel endorsement. We will continue offering a tail wheel endorsement with this plane until we relocate it to Winona Lake, where it will reside for the summer months, into late fall. Our hope is to help the local aviation community grow while continuing to offer the best flight training in the country and we can’t wait to fly this plane year round, on and off the lakes around us.

If you’re interested in attending the group ground school so you can fly this piece of art, register for this course and RSVP by April 13. If you’d like to schedule a flight in the Cub or schedule your 3 hours of flight time to earn your tail wheel endorsement, contact Katye at 888-566-3877.
