The purpose of slow flight is to demonstrate the students ability to
control the aircraft at critically slow airspeeds and his/her ability to
transition to airspeeds other than cruise speeds. Notice that the recovery
is similar to Power-Off Stall recovery, and Go-Around (Missed Approach).
Setup
- Pre-maneuvering Checklist
- Clearing Turns
- Power to 1700 RPM
- Flaps 10 at 85-75 KTS
- Flaps 20 at 75-65 KTS
- Flaps 30 at 65-55 KTS
- Slow to Approximately 35-40 KTS (Imminent Stall)
- Pitch for Airspeed, Power for Altitude
Recovery
- Nose on Horizon (Maintain Altitude until 67 KTS)
- Full Power (Right Rudder)
- Flaps 20 (Immediately)
- Flaps 10 (At 67 KTS)
- Climb to Specified Altitude at 67 KTS
- Flaps 0 (Positive Rate, Clear of Obstacles)
- Return to Cruise
